Compostion and Functions of Cell membrane(2nd part)

Protein and its types in cell membrane
-Proteins are the main components of cell membrane
-They play structural role in cell membrane
-They act as carrier or channal
                          Types of proteins
Singer group proteins:Singer group proteins are divided into two types.

  • Periphral proteins:They are polar in nature. They are present at the sides of the cell membrane.
  • Integral proteins:They are non-plar in nature and they are embeded in cell membrane.
Functions:Elasticity of the membrane is due to the presence of these protins.
-They reduce tension between cell and water.
-About all the enzymes are proteins. So their function is very important in the cell membrane.
-About 30 different enzymes are present in this cell membrane/

           Main functions of Cell membrane
-Control the flow of substances in and out to the cell
-Cell membrane have some pores tehy allow some molecules and prevent others, process call differentalialy permeable
-Permeablity is of fundamental importance ,it is mechanism which regulate the entrence of molecules, neccessry for photosynthesis.

       Fector affecting the Permeability
1.Characteristcs of cell membrane:
a.Fluidity:Fluidity means the number of unsaturated carbons. When fluidity increases then permeability increases.
b.Presence of pores:Permeablity also depends upon the size and the charge of pores. When number of opposite charge increases then permeability also increases.
c.Proteins:If essential proteins are not present then permeability decreaces,or cell membrane will not permeable.
2.Physical states:Permeability also depends upon
  • Temprature
  • PH
  • Ion concentration
  • concentration gradients
